| Mesembrine and mesembrenine are the two major active alkaloids
in Kanna.
The fresh Sceletium Tortuosum leaves contain a high % of oxalic acid , when dried it is slightly reduced. The oxalic acid gets reduced to a minimum by a special traditional fermentation procedure before drying, making the product suitable for use. In small doses they have a meditative and narcotic effect, in higher doses, they first have a stimulating cocaine-like effect. After about an hour, it changes to a trance-like sedation. They also act as serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (comparative to Prozac). In higher doses it is an euphoric stimulant and at lower doses it induces a gentle trance. The body experiences increased sensitivity and sensuality to touch, and numbness to pain. Other effects that have been reported are feeling free from angst and stress, higher sense of consciousness and increased focus and concentration. In combination with alcohol and / or cannabis visions have been reported. In some cases Kanna can also be used to abort a magic mushroom trip. Sceletium Tortuosum Usage: When used as a snuff, 20
mg is sufficient to produce a substantial effect. 50-150 mg mixed with
chewing gum or placed under the tongue produces
a more subtle effect. 200 mg can be added to a cup of tea. Kanna in combination
with alcohol and / or cannabis will enhance each other's effects! warning:
Elevates blood pressure. Do not use in combination with MAO inhibitors,
drugs and / or medication. Do not use during pregnancy or nursing, when
you have a history of psychosis or depression, when intending to operate

Sceletium tortuosumBotanical Name: Sceletium tortuosum (Mesembryanthemaceae)Common Names: Kougoed; Kanna Active Constituents: Mesembrine; Mesembrenone; Mesembrenol; Tortuosamine Botanical description: Sceletium tortuosumThe original name given to mesembs was Mesembrianthemum. This name was chosen to describe the opening of flowers at noon. The spelling was later changed to Mesembryanthemum. Historically, the group of plants generally referred to as Aizoaceae, have enjoyed fluctuating status in various systematic treatments. Although mesembs are most often classified in Aizoaceae, many taxonomists, particularly in South African herbaria prefer to treat them as a separate family, Mesembryanthemaceae. The Mesembryanthemaceae form a major and unique component of southern Africa's arid land flora. Succulent leaves, bright shiny-petalled flowers and hygrochastic fruit (capsules open when it rains) characterize the group. There are eights species, all of which are confined to the Cape region of South Africa. Sceletium tortuosum is the best known and most widely distributed. |
